Technology is an amazing thing that advances so rapidly, we never know what new breakthrough is right around the corner that will simplify all of our lives, or allow us to connect to one another in some new and exciting way. Technology allows us to digitally edit our photographs in the comfort of our own homes, and know if our exposures are spot on the moment we take an image in any kind of light. In the case of Heather & Ryan’s wedding at the Belle Mer, in Newport Rhode Island, technology allowed for Ryan’s mother to be a part of their day even if she was far away in a hospital bed, recovering from a car accident that happened days before. We all know and love Apple’s Ipad, and know that while it has so many amazing features that can be used in an infinite amount of ways, we didn’t think it could serve such an incredible purpose as to allow her to view, and participate in her son and daughter-in-law’s ceremony via Skype. So while the vows were being spoken aloud, she watched the whole thing live, and it was one of the coolest, most touching things we have had the opportunity of witnessing. And what an incredible day it was! Heather was absolutely radiant in her Maggie Sotero wedding gown, and her gorgeous flowers from Kim Lamothe (the flowers were grown from an organic garden). Ryan and his groomsmen looked super sharp in their light sand suits, and the colors of the day blended together in a perfect way that matched the colors of the setting sun during their portraits. We also want to give a shout out to the incredibly talented Heart Beat Dance Band (who we had the pleasure of working with two days in a row, what are the odds?), who fired up the whole reception, and left us humming all the way home.

When something is classic, it never goes out of style. It looks great no matter when or where it happens, and when the rest of the fads have come and gone, it still remains. And much like those things that stand the test of time, Vicki and I were present for the ceremonial pairing of Katie & Simba, and were witness to something joined that was already special, and now even more so. We already knew that these two had style and grace coming out of every pore in their bodies as evidenced by their killer engagement session in Boston, and we couldn’t wait to see how Katie would look in the modernly revised wedding dress her Mother had worn on her wedding day. Simba looked incredibly handsome in tails (and we are so glad to see the look coming back for another go!), and they both looked, well, classic – like their wedding could have taken at any time in the past, and the far future. Their reception at The Inn at Longshore fit so perfectly, and the Flowers by Danielle were exquisite. It was just a happy day, with smiles and laughter all around, and Katie & Simba at the center of it all, looking perfect together.

Vicki and I don’t always have the opportunity to meet with, or even photograph all of our couples before their wedding day. Sometimes, we are only able to speak over the phone, and other times, our couples are already so busy with their professional and personal lives, that they enlist the help of supportive friends and family. Vicki had almost all of her communications with Amanda’s mother Laurie, and from everything we gathered about how Amanda & JP’s day was to unfold, and just how sweet Laurie was over the phone and through email, we knew we were going to be in for a treat! It totally didn’t hurt that Amanda & JP are drop dead gorgeous and completely enamored with each other, on top of the fact that they are both super down to earth and made us feel instantly at ease around them (even with all of the activity that surrounds most wedding days). We were left to our own devices, happily snapping photos of everything going on at the Greenwich Country Club. JP looked dashing in his pin striped suit & coat tails, and Amanda was absolutely stunning in her Marisa wedding gown, and glittery Jimmy Choo’s (Vicki’s personal fave ). We also loved all of the flowers, and the orchids, still on their stalks, were especially beautiful and a touch we almost never see. Everything about their wedding day was elegant, sophisticated, and classy – not unlike Amanda & JP.
