As a rule for us, it is so important to connect to and enjoy the people we photograph – we don’t think our jobs would be possible if we didn’t truly love everyone who invests in their images with us. And all of our couples bring us so many wonderfully unique qualities and details that it keeps us on our toes and totally interested in every event we are a part of. Abby & Scott had such a day, the day they vowed to spend the rest of their lives together growing as a couple, and sharing themselves, not just to each other, but with those around them. And their vows aren’t unlike what they gave to us, their friends and their families – a vision totally unique to them, and filled with all of the beautiful details that represent just how sweet and thoughtful they both are. We simply adored Abby’s Michelle Roth wedding gown which she purchased from Kleinfeld, and her Badgley Mischka silver glitter pumps. And of course all of the amazing flowers and other treats like Abby’s handmade moss “A” & “S”, and the apples that cradled the place cards for their guests. It was a spiritual, emotional day, both elegant and timeless, and it showcased all of the best things life has to offer.

Vicki and I never know what kind of cool things to expect when we photograph a wedding (and we have photographed a lot and have seen some really cool things), so we go into the experience with a readiness to be blown away by the beauty of life and everything that surrounds us throughout a day such as the marriage of Holly + Matt. And everyone in the room was totally taken off guard when Matt opened his gift from Holly while he was getting ready and pulled out a Paul McCartney signed copy of Abbey Road – probably the coolest gift we have ever seen a bride give her groom, but to be expected from Holly, who is not just totally gorgeous and sweet, but incredibly thoughtful as well. They had seen Paul McCartney recently, and it was just the coolest thing ever to see Matt’s face light up, with me and Matt’s brother gawking (while I took photos of course). I grew up listening to the Beatles (my Dad saw them at Candlestick Park when he was a teenager) from a cassette player with my sister, singing along to Penny Lane and imagining ourselves there while we listened. I had mentioned how thoughtful Holly is, and she most certainly is – having brought us flowers for driving down to photograph them at their sweet engagement session in Dobbs Ferry, NY. And we also mentioned that she looked gorgeous, and she totally did in her Romona Keveza wedding gown from Kleinfeld, with her beautiful bouquet that was a replica of the bouquet her mom had at her wedding (with a little modernization). And Matt looked handsome as well, matching Holly perfectly not only in appearance but in genuine warmth and the way he just radiates happiness to those around him. It was a day to expect the unexpected, a day where everything came together perfectly, and at the center of it all were Holly & Matt.

It’s funny how easy it is to take something for granted, and maybe even let it become a mere afterthought once you are around it all the time. That is until you are presented with its beauty and magic again. What could we be talking about? FOG! Driving into Newport Vicki and I had the opportunity to cross the bridge through some pea-soup-thick-fog, and it was so great, being reminded of the Golden Gate bridge back in San Francisco, and how it cooled the city down on hot summer days. It’s also great because it provides such beautiful even light for photos, and it was around through all of the right moments for Jessica & Howie’s beautiful waterfront wedding. We loved how their details reflected the ocean, and the whites and purples of their flowers tying everything together. We had a great time photographing everything, especially the way Jessica and Howie were around each other. How cool is it to be able to take a road trip to such a gorgeous location for your job?
